What is the Health Ministry About?

The Health Ministry, also know as Parish Nursing, integrates the practice of faith with the practice of nursing so people can achieve wholeness in, with, and through the PBCC faith community in which Parish Nurses serve. Parish Nursing is a specialty practice and a professional model of Health Ministry.  The Parish Nurse, in collaboration with the Pastoral Staff, and the congregation, participates in the ongoing transformation of the faith community into a source of health & healing.

A Parish Nurse at PBCC Can——

  • Promote an understanding of the relationship between faith, lifestyle,  attitudes, and well-being.
  • Develop support groups to meet specific needs of congregation members.
  • Assist in closing the gaps in care related to transition from hospital care to home.
  • Make home, hospital, and nursing home visits, as needed.
  • Be available to the PBCC health community to discuss health questions or issues, and can assist with referrals for care.
  • Answer your questions regarding detection and early intervention of health related problems.
  • Be a patient advocate for you with your medical team!

Nurses

If you are a registered nurse, holding a current Oregon license, we could use your help on occasion.  Please contact Bonnie or Pam for more information.

Volunteers

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with some patient needs, as they arise.  Sometimes we have people who need a ride to a doctor’s appointment; someone to pick up a prescription; shop for groceries; someone to just visit with; help with cleaning, or changing a bed, or doing some laundry.  There are gaps in living each day for many people – the more volunteers that are available to lift another’s spirits will always be welcome!!

Blood Pressure Clinics

Blood Pressure Clinics are held each month, on a Sunday at PBCC.  Watch the website, newsletter, or Sunday bulletin for the date.  Blood pressures are read by one of our R.N.’s.

NEW!! A change made for Blood Pressure Clinics.  The clinics will be held twice on Sundays (instead of three times).

1st Clinic: Blood Pressures will be read between the 1st & 2nd Services – from approximately 9:40 am to 10:10 am, in the room East of the Nursery.

2nd Clinic: Blood Pressures will be read prior to 3rd Service – at the regular time – from approximately 10:30 am to 10:55 am, in the Health Ministry office (NE corner of the Fellowship Room, Chapel Bldg).

Remember: These clinics are FREE!  We encourage everyone to take advantage of this service.  It is a good way to keep tabs on how your body may be changing!
