Lord’s Acre

THIS WILL BE THE 65th YEAR OF THE ANNUAL LORD’S ACRE

This year we will be holding our 65th Annual Lord’s Acre Day on Saturday November 5th. Much preparation has been going on all year long. There will be activities like the sale of pieces of pie and coffee; the “General Store” which includes crafts, baked goods, aprons, novelties, fresh-frozen meats and our famous whole hog breakfast sausage; music concerts; the barbecue dinner consisting of beef, lamb, ham, baked potato, beans, barbecue sauce, bread, onions and pickles; and the afternoon auction of quilts, afghans, large crafts and possibly hay and firewood.

Lord’s Acre began as a way to finance the building of the original brick structure (Historic Chapel). The church congregation was encouraged to donate the harvest from one acre of farm ground. From the very beginning, at least 10 percent of the proceeds were allocated to missions work.

Over the years, the farming communities of Central Oregon have changed, but the concept of Lord’s Acre has not. Today, the proceeds are utilized for missions work, Christian Bible college scholarships and improvements to the church facilities, while the day-to-day operations of the church are paid through the general fund tithes and offerings.

If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s Acre Program or want to get involved, volunteers are always needed and welcomed, contact a staff member, church leader or give a call to the office. Monetary donations for materials and supplies to put on the Lord’s Acre events are always welcome and can be made out to Powell Butte Church Lord’s Acre.
